It was 3 years ago when we first met。 You didn’t know me, I was nervous but you never made me feel unwelcome.

They told me that you were clean and beautiful, their words were so true。 I drank your tea, ate your food and lay upon your beaches, how kind you were to a weary traveler such as I.

Your people love you too, I wonder if they know how lucky they are, had they seen so much of the world like I, they would know that nowhere else compares to you.

Once, a typhoon came, and for a brief moment, your beauty was diminished, I was sad but you knew that your loving people would repair you.

Beijing sent it’s finest men and women, like bees busily nursing you back to health, once more your sweetness abounded, and once again we all enjoyed your nectar.

You are a jewel set in the sea, and now we know each other, you have become our home, a safe place for my family, a lesson in harmony and peace.

Our children will know you like we do, they will speak your language and enjoy your beauty, they will know what it is like to finish school and play on the beach, not just any beach, your long golden sands, so clean, as clean as the air that surrounds them.

People from all over come to admire you and take their photo with you, when they leave, they feel younger and happier like a thirsty traveler who delights in a drink of cool water and continues refreshed.

And still, we marvel at you like a child marvels at something his innocent eyes had not seen before, those who do not love you, do not understand you, those who have never visited you, are lacking a great thing indeed.

And when I am fishing and contemplating your tranquility, or walking in your mountains, or sailing in your waters, I am grateful to have this time with you, for one day I must go, to a land far away, and when that time comes, your memories shall still warm me.
